Alastair Clark is a director, producer and creative from Aotearoa New Zealand.

He has directed and assistant directed with arts organisations including Sydney Theatre Company, Melbourne Theatre Company, Victorian Opera and NIDA.

Alastair is a recipient of numerous awards and grants, including The Gloria Payten and Gloria Dawn Fellowship, and the University of Melbourne Faculty of Arts 110 Scholarship.

He has received funding from RISING (Melbourne Festival), Sidney Myer Fund & The Myer Foundation, Playwriting Australia, Victorian Opera, Australian Government Office for the Arts and Union House Theatre.

Education:

  • National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA): M.F.A. Directing (High Distinction).

Research interests:

  • In philosophy and social science: normative political theory and international ethics (climate, migration, the use of force), critical approaches to world politics, U.S. foreign policy, global governance, regional politics (West Asia and North Africa; Southeast Asia).

  • In theatre and aesthetics: political drama, contemporary European theatre, directing methodologies, non-verbal communication (gesture; proxemics)
